Love is Love is Love (inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda's response to the mass killing at Pulse nightclub)

Love is love is love is love is love is love is love.  Lin-Manuel Miranda.

It's impossible not to have an opinion about what is being called the worst mass killing in US history.   It's impossible not to ponder the fact that this tragedy marked a convergence of several hot button entities which have each at some time or other been an explosive news item.  It's implausible to ignore the obvious possibility that this was hate against the LGBT community mixed with ISIS inspired terrorism.

Aside from the notion of just how tragic and horrible this incident was, especially with so many survivors to explain in vivid detail the events which transpired, I think it is this idea that the worlds of these two very controversial entities collided that early morning that holds captive our imagination.   I also can't think of an incident where the LGBT community has been targeted in this way.  The rainbow flag has in a strange way always been a symbol of strength and resilience in the face of discrimination.  So it was unusual to see this community in such a vulnerable state.

So in the end, if this attack was truly instigated by ISIS propaganda, what exactly does ISIS and it's followers want?  Is there any ideology that is safe in the face of terror?  I know the LGBT lifestyle is denounced by some religions but isn't love the overarching message of all religions including Islam?

What does one have to do to be safe from these attacks?  To me it seems there is no right answer.  To me it seems if an individual becomes overwhelmed by anger and is susceptible to certain ideas, no one is safe.  To me it seems, some of these 'ISIS' motivated attacks are subjective and very personal.

Our society appears to be heading in a dangerous direction,  a place where ordinary people too often feel there is no alternative but destruction and when ordinary people wage war it's against the ones closest to them - us.

Love is love is love is love is love is love is love.  Love - not lust, conceit or dominance - should be society's main objective.  'Love your neighbor as yourself' shouldn't just be a verse from the Bible - it should be a social mantra!
